Number the Stars - Book Review

Number the Stars
By: Lois Lowry

Summary: Ten-year-old Annemarie Johansen and her best friend, Ellen Rosen, often think about life before the war. But it's now 1943, and their life in Copenhagen is filled with school, food shortages, and the Nazi soldiers marching in their town. The Nazis won't stop. The Jews of Denmark are being "relocated," so Ellen moves in with the Johansens and pretends to be part of the family. Then Annemarie is asked to go on a dangerous mission. Somehow she must find the strength and courage to save her best friend's life. There's no turning back now.  (Summary provided by Bookshare.org)

Favorite Character: My favorite character would have to be Annemarie Johansen, because she was so brave for being so young.

Favorite Scene: My favorite scene would have to be the beginning of the story when she is running to her uncles boat with the cheese and bread.

I give this book a Thumbs Up because it had a really good story line and was about a real time in history.

The BFG - Book Review

The BFG
By: Roald Dahl

Summary: The BFG is no ordinary bonecrunching giant. He is far too nice and jumbly. When Sophie hears that they are flush-bunking off to England to swollomp a few nice little chiddlers, she decides she must stop them. And the BFG is going to help her! (Summary provided by Bookshare.org)

Favorite Character: My favorite character would have to be the BFG, because that's who the story is about, and He's a BIG GIANT!

Favorite Scene: My favorite scene would have to be at the very end of the story when the Big Giants are going into the Big Hole!

I give this book a THUMBS UP because it had a very interesting story line, and of course, because it had a BIG GIANT in it!

Bridge to Terabithia - Book Review

Bridge to Terabithia
By: Katherine Paterson

Summary: A wonderful middle-grade novel narrated by Kenny, 9, about his middle-class black family, the Weird Watsons of Flint, Michigan. When Kenny's 13-year-old brother, Byron, gets to be too much trouble, they head South to Birmingham to visit Grandma, the one person who can shape him up. And they happen to be in Birmingham when Grandma's church is blown up. (Summary provided by Bookshare.org)

Favorite Character: My favorite character would have to be Leslie, because she was very brave and never gave up.

Favorite Scene: My favorite scene would have to be when they found the tree house in the woods.

I give this book a Thumbs Up because it was a little "Make-Believe", but just not too much.

Night of the Twisters - Book Review

Night of the Twisters
By: Ivy Ruckman

Summary: Tornado Alert! Tornado Alert! Tornado alert! Tornado alert! just seconds after the announcement, the radio is dead, the lights go out, and the only sound in the unnaturally quiet night is the horrifying wail of the warning siren. Dan's been through a dozen tornado watches before, but this is the real thing -- a twister is about to hit. Alone in the house, he, his best friend, and his infant brother take shelter in the basement. Huddled in the shower, covered by a blanket, they listen to the sounds of the howling, shrieking tornado. The world seems about to come to an end on top of them. This harrowing story of a day like any other turned -- almost without warning -- into a nightmare abounds with courage, love, and hope. (Summary provided by Bookshare.org)

Favorite Character:  My favorite character in this book would have to be Dan.  He was so brave, steady and reliable.

Favorite Scene: My favorite scene would have to be at the end, after the tornado had already hit down, and Dan's Mom and Dad arrive in his  Dad's truck, and the whole family gets reunited again.

I give this book a big Thumbs Up!  I liked this story because it has Tornatos in it, and it has people running for their lives!
